Under 19s help Hungary to measure of revenge over Montenegro

These are the last international matches for the U19 national team led by Ferenc Bene before October's European Championship qualifying round mini-tournament. On the first matchday of this Vilotic tournament, they took to the pitch against Montenegro, just a day after our full national team had lost 2-1 to their Montengrin counterparts in Podgorica.

The match started better for our opponents but we settled after the first ten minutes and dominated the rest of the half. We took the lead with 14 minutes played, Alen Skribek running down the right from his own half, tricking his way past three defenders and crossing for Péter Beke to head into the top-left corner of the net. More opportunities to score were subsequently created, one of which was converted into Hungary's second goal in the 34th minute, Márton Radics sliding the ball in front of the goal for Beke to crash a shot off the crossbar and into the net.

After the break, Montenegro initially came back into the game but the first-half scenario was repicated, Hungary reasserting themselves andthreateningto extend their lead on nuerous occasions. There were to be no further goals though, Hungary having to settle for a 2-0 success.

"The first ten minutes of both halves were the opponents', but we battled through the pressure and the team played very well thereafter. The match wasn't spectacular but we played football in a tactically-disciplined and mature manner. I congratulate the players on their victory but we also need to keep in mind that we need to improve our conversion of goalscoring chances and certain aspects of our defence when playing competitive matches", Ferenc Bene told mlsz.hu after the match.

The men's Under-19 Hungarian national team will next play Serbia on Sunday.
