Vidi keep Champions League hopes alive

Loic Nego's second-half equaliser ensured Hungary's last representatives in Europe this season, MOL Vidi FC, came away from Sweden with a 1-1 draw against 1980 European Cup finalists Malmo in the first leg of their Champions League 3rd qualifying round tie on Tuesday.

Capital-city delight as all four Budapest teams win

The third round of the 2018/19 OTP Bank Liga season took place over two days on Saturday and Sunday and there was joy for all four Budapest clubs as they picked up all three points from each of their encounters, both Ferencváros and Honvéd therefore retaining their 100% wining starts to the league season. The fifth game of the weekend resulted in a 2-0 triumph for Debrecen.

Honvéd and Újpest crash out of Europe

A brave Újpest side fell 3-1 at home to Sevilla despite a tremendous strike from forward Dónát Zsótér while Honvéd suffered a disappointing 2-0 away defeat to Progres of Luxembourg, both results in the Europa League 2nd qualfying round meaning that MOL Vidi are now the only Hungarian club left in European competition this season courtesy of their qualification on Wednesday for the 3rd qualifying round of the UEFA Champions League.

Champions League: Vidi oust Bulgarian champions

MOL Vidi FC continued their excellent European form by defeating ten-man Ludogorets of Bulgaria 1-0 at the Pancho Aréna on Wednesday evening to progress to a UEFA Champions League third qualifying round tie with Malmö, Blazel Hadžić scoring the vital goal just before half-time.

OTP Bank Liga: Fradi and Honvéd go clear at summit

Ferencváros won Budapest's 'Eternal Derby' against MTK 4-1 to post their first away win of 2018 and maintain their 100% record during this new season. Budapest Honvéd are the only other team with two victories from their first two fixtures after thrashing sorry Kisvarda 4-0, while the other four OTP Liga fixtures this weekend all ended in draws, two of which featured goals at both ends by the same players - Attila Simon putting Paks into a 22nd-minute lead before his own goal levelled the scores seven minutes later and Ákos Kinyik 'achieving' the same feat the other way around, rescuing his Debrecen team in the 87th minute with his first ever top-flight strike after his 71st-minute own goal had put 'Loki' in arrears.

Mixed fortunes for Hungarian clubs in Europe

It was a mixed set of first-leg results for Hungarian clubs in European competition this week, Honvéd winning 1-0 at home against Niederkorn of Luxembourg in the Europa League, ten-man Újpest crashing to a 4-0 defeat away at illustrious Sevilla in the same competition and MOL Vidi FC holding out for a goalless draw away at Ludgorets of Bulgaria in their Champions League qualifier. All three 2nd legs take place next week.
