Hungary men play out goalless draw with Greece
Hungary kept a second consecutive clean sheet against Greece in Budapest on Tuesday evening, but neither team could find a goal to decide this international friendly contest.
Damir Redzic replaced Dániel Lukács in the only change from Hungary's starting lineup which defeated Slovakia last Saturday evening, also in the Puskás Aréna, as head coach Marco Rossi sought to learn more about the less established players in his squad. An experienced squad member was first to threaten the Greece goal though, Roland Sallai playing a one-two with Redzic in the 7th minute but seeing his subsequent shot well saved by visiting goalkeeper Colakis.
Home keeper Balázs Tóth was called into action four minutes later, denying Kourmpelis before Redzic, Szoboszlai and Alex Tóth all went close to edging Hungary into the lead before half-time. Rossi shuffled his pack at the break, Alex Tóth, Bendegúz Bolla and Redzic making way for Donát Bárány, Dániel Lukács and Attila Osváth.
The crowd was nearly treated to a wonder goal from Dominik Szoboszlai in the 52nd minute when he slalomed through the Greece defence, but Colakis denied Hungary's captain with his feet from close range. The away team always had the potential to pose danger though, as evidenced by Pavlidis striking a post from a tight angle just after the hour mark. Bárány was forced off through injury in the 78th minute but his replacement Szabolcs Schön - the match winner against Slovakia - was unable to break the deadlock either, the game drawing to its conclusion without any additions to the scoresheet.
Hungary therefore complete their March double-header against Slovakia and Greece with a record of one win and one draw with one goal scored and none conceded.
