Fradi Women win Hungarian Cup for seventh time!

Ferencváros ran out comfortable 3-0 winners against capital-city rivals Budapest Honvéd in a match which marked the first time VAR had been used in a women's Hungarian Cup match in Hungary.

Honvéd were playing in the cup final for the first time in ten years, again against FTC-Telekom, while their Six-time cup-winning opponents contested the final against Astra in 2021, a match which brought a 5-1 Fradi victory under the leadership of current Honvéd coach Balázs Dörnyei.

This year's final marked a historic moment in Hungarian women's football as VAR (video-assisted refereeing) debuted in the Simple Women's Cup. The final was officiated by Katalin Kulcsár, who was voted the best female referee in the world in 2016, and she was assisted by Dr Judit Kulcsár (on the side of the benches), Noémi Hegedűs-Baráth (2nd assistant) and Katalin Sipos (4th referee), while VAR was led by Eszter Urbán (VAR), Réka Molnár (AVAR) and Tamás Berényi (operator).

As expected, FTC-Telekom settled into the match almost immediately and took the lead in the 13th minute when Hungary international striker Viktória Nagy curled a shot from the right into the Kispest goal from 13 metres. Honvéd still battled gamely thereafter but found themselves two goals down at the half-time break after Nagy's fellow Hungary international Diána Csányi doubling FTC-Telekom's advantage with a minute left of the first half.

Honvéd started the second half well, Rebeka Róth's header hitting the crossbar in the 49th minute from Fanni Vachter's corner, but just five minutes later, Dörnyei's team fell three goals behind when Vlada Kubaszová strode forward who fired the ball from distance into the bottom right corner of the Honvéd net. Fradi managed the game well for the remaining 36 minutes plus added time, but did not score any more goals, thus the match finished 3-0 to Ferencváros, giving the green-and-whites their seventh Simple Magyar kupa triumph.

Budapest Honvéd 0-3 FTC-Telekom (HT: 0-2)

Venue: Új Hidegkuti Nándor Stadion.
