Marco Rossi: I didn’t expect this result either

Hungary's head coach admitted that his team needed luck to score at Wembley, but the players did the very best they could.

Following the 1-1 draw against England, Marco Rossi highlighted the role of luck as well as tactical discipline:

"After fifty-five minutes of the match in Budapest, the team fell apart against England because we did not follow the tactics. That didn’t happen tonight, whie we were lucky to be given a debatable penalty, we managed to stay level not only until the half-time break, but all the way to the end", Rossi stated.

"Today's draw cannot be compared to the results of the European Championships, because a lot of people were missing from our squad today. Our team cannot be compared to England's; we can't replace five players from the starting team without any problems. Honestly, I didn’t expect this result before the match. We played much more courageously tonight than against Albania three days ago, when we were unable to create any danger in the attacking third. The situation was different tonight, the players approached it differently, even though they had of course tried their best in every match in the past too. It hasn’t always worked out, but it did now".

Rossi's England counterpart Gareth Southgate admitted that Hungary's team had not surprised him with its organised game and its 3-4-3 lineup:

"We were aware that the Hungarian national team is an extremely good team, so we were not surprised that our opponent defended well and regained possession well. Hungary gave us a tactical problem today, but we must also admit that we didn't play as well as in Budapest. We gave the ball away easily and played a little nervously throughout", Southgate opined.
