Tibor Vámos to be new MLSZ Competitions Director

The former referee and FIFA linesman will follow Róbert Barczi in leading the federation's competitions department.

Tibor Vámos became a referee aged 16 and during a 29-year career, he officiated in 25 second-tier matches and ran the line in 280 top-flight games and 98 times in European and international matches.

As a member of the Kassai-Erős-Vámos trio, he was part of the refereeing team in 12 UEFA Champions League group matches and also performed assistant-referee duties at the Beijing 2008 Olympic men's football final and the 2010 World Cup semi-final between Spain and Germany.

The end of his refereeing career saw Vámos take up the role of BLSZ and MLSZ referee observer as well as from 2015 acting as president of the Grassroots, Fair Play and Minorities Committee. In civilian life, Vámos taught Russian, History and English at the Mihály Táncsics Comprehensive School in Budapest before progressing to the position of Headmaster in the same institution.

"I see being named Director of Competitions as a great honour and challenge. I'm not meant to receive a spectacular assignment but rather a very important one, during which my aims will include the smooth, well-planned and transparent organisation of championships and successful cooperation with clubs," said Vámos, whose first day in the role was 1st July.
