Ádám Bogdán: It's my job to help the other two goalkeepers
Saturday saw Attila Szalai and Ádám Bogdán made available to journalists with only three days remaining before Hungary's first match in this year's edition of the European Championship, the meeting against Portugal at home in Budapest's Puskás Aréna.
"My last year has been very good and I am very happy about it, as I've done well with both my club team and the national team. I have worked hard and will continue to work a lot so that I can continue on this path", Attila Szalai began his press conference on Saturday at the team's media centre. "As for the match against Portugal, the whole team is very excited and looking forward to this day. The most important thing will be to arrive well prepared physically, tactically and mentally for this and every match, as our own expectations are very high".
Attila Szalai, who recently joined Fenerbache, the team supported by Germany's former World Cup winner Mesut Özil who is now in the same squad at club level in Turkey, admitted his teammate had said it will be tough for Hungary at this European Championship. Finally, Attila was also asked about the effect his father, also Attila Szalai, who was also an international football for Hungary, had on him:
“When I was a kid, I wasn’t really very good with the ball and I even had coordination issues, but my dad helped me a lot and that’s how I was able to develop. Of course he is strict with me, but I also am with myself," Szalai admitted.
Later, Ádám Bogdán was asked by journalists what he expects from the tournament, as it is rare for the third goalkeeper to play in a European championship.
"My first motivation was to get into the squad and I only had a few matches near the end of the season to achieve this. I finally succeeded though and I’m here in the squad which will play at home in the European Championship. Thanks to my teammates fror getting us here! My job now is to do my best in training and help the work of my teammates too. It’s quite an uplifting feeling to be a member of the national squad nowadays. I'm walking on air and will do my best to keep the number one and two goalkeepers in the best possible shape".
The Ferencváros goalkeeper also highlighted that he'd come into a community that was already accustomed to from his previous time there.
“There were a lot of old faces amongst the staff and the players, of course. It’s an interesting feeling because I’m one of the oldest players, but as a new arrival, I began to watch people's habits as the days unfolded. The whole staff is very professional, which forms a very good community. I'm confident that this will be such a big advantage over the other teams that it can mean we are successful" Bogdan concluded.
