Final U17 World Cup squad announced as preparations begin
The Hungarian men's U17 national squad which will travel to Brazil for this month's World Cup gathered in Telki on Wednesday afternoon, when Sándor Preisinger released details of those who have made it on to the final 21-man list.
The Hungarian men's U17 national team preparing for the World Cup will travel to the tournament on 19th October, where, a week later, it will begin its campaign. Eighteen outfield players and 3 goalkeepers can be selected to be a part of Hungary's World Cup and adjustments can only be made before the start of the tournament in the event of an injury. Two reserve players will travel with the squad to Brazil.
Goiania will be our base
Hungary will play all their three group matches in Goiania, a city with a population of one-and-a-half million, at the Olympic Stadium which has a capacity of 13,500. The first match against Nigeria will kick off at 22:00 CET on 26th October with the second fixture coming three days later against Australia at midnight CET on 29th October. The third and final group match comes at 21:00 CET on 1st November against Ecuador. At the end, the top two teams from each group plus the top four third-placed nations from across the six groups will advance to the round of 16.
"It was not an easy task to decide the final squad, because only twenty-one players could be selected for the World Cup and more than that number deserve to be with us in Brazil," Sándor Preisinger told mlsz.hu. "I thank those players who have done a lot for the team but who now won't be travelling with the squad - they have helped us succeed in qualifying for this year's World Cup. We have three days in Telki before leaving, during which time we will be trying to adjust to the Brazilian time zone while preparing for the task ahead".
In the days leading up to the departure, in addition to training, there will be a behind-closed-doors preparation match played against NB II club Nyíregyháza on Friday.
