Marco Rossi: “I want to give Dzsudzsák the chance to hold the record outright”

Hungary's 108-times-capped international winger Balázs Dzsudzsák will continue his career at Debreceni VSC in the Merkantil Bank Liga, the club he grew up at and then left 12 years ago. The national-team captain has signed a multi-year agreement with Debrecen, so if the club is promoted to Hungary's top tier, the OTP Bank Liga, this season, he will again play at the country's highest level.

Dzsudzsák's contract was announced by Debrecen on Tuesday afternoon, which means that following the recent capture of Mihály Korhut, the Merkantil Bank Liga's leaders have strengthened with another national-team member. Dzsudzsák last played in an official match in March, but in recent weeks he has resumed training with the MTK Budapest club.

Hungary Men's head coach Marco Rossi is glad that the fate of Balázs Dzsudzsák has finally been decided. The Italian's selection principles also apply to the former PSV Eindhoven and Dinamo Moscow player, of course, but he would definitely like to give him the opportunity to hold the national team's all-time individual appearance record outright, Dzsudzsák currently jointly holding the record with former goalkeeper Gábor Király:

"I'm very glad that Balázs has a team again," Marco Rossi told mlsz.hu. "It is commendable that he has decided to return to his first club and help them return to the top flight. Since he hasn't played for a very long time, he will definitely need some time to get back into his best shape, but I’m sure he’ll succeed at this too. From the point of view of the national team, I can say, as I have said several times before, that there are rules that we always use to select each squad, that these are still valid and that we'll continue to follow these same principles. Of course, I will monitor Balázs's performance in Debrecen, if only because I want to give him the opportunity to be out there on his own as the Hungarian national team's record appearance-maker".
