Marco Rossi: We can only succeed together
Hungary's head coach was joined by goalkeeper Dénes Dibusz at the team's official press conference on Tuesday. Under discussion were the topics of attitude, the pitch in Andorra and the conditions ahead of the match. Marco Rossi will make several changes, today’s World Cup qualifier against Andorra being the national team’s third match in six days.
"Whatever happens, we want to win. We respect the opponent, we can’t underestimate them, but neither the long journey, nor the artificial grass, nor anything else can be an excuse", Hungary’s head coach said ahead of the team’s third World Cup qualifier of the current campaign. "We’re preparing for Andorra in the same way as for any of our previous opponents, regardless of their position in the world rankings, and we need to focus from the first minute of the match to the last".
Rossi replied to a reporter’s question that whatever happens, our players can’t run out on the pitch without the right attitude, even if the national team is missing a number of key players:
"We are a team, we have to fight together and I sincerely hope that all Hungarian fans will stand behind us, even if we’re not going to produce the most enjoyable and beautiful game - I apologise in advance for that. All that matters is winning tomorrow’s match, almost no matter what type of game it is".
According to Dénes Dibusz, Andorra will play a more aggressive game against us than San Marino did. The goalkeeper is confident though, that Hungary will be able to create a good number of situations and will take a first-half lead, which will then require a focus on possession and retention of the ball:
"Four years ago, the team (that played and lost here 1-0) had suffered a lot of player absences - I didn't play either and watched the match on television. The defeat was taken by surprise and that made it worse, as I feel like a member of the team even when I’m not in the squad. Now it’s our job not to make the same mistake. We need to take the match very seriously. The Andorran national team efends solidly and being at home on their own artificial grass is their advantage, but I won’t mention any of them as excuses. On artificial grass, the speed of the ball is completely different; it bounces differently and you have to kick it in a slightly different spot (to get the same desired effect). In Tuesday’s training, we tried to get to know and adapt to the circumstances".
At the end of the press conference it was confirmed that MLSZ will announce on Thursday the national team's warm-up matches in June.
The Andorra v Hungary World Cup qualifier on Wednesday evening will be refereed by Iceland's Vilhjalmur Thorarinsson. His assistants will be Gylfi Mar Sigurdsson and Birkir Sigurdarson, and the fourth official will be Ivar Orri Kristjansson.
