3,500 children at Grassroots festivals!

The Hungarian football community has taken a new form this year by celebrating European Sport Week and Grassroots Week from 23-30 September at numerous football clubs nationwide. As a result, the programme of activities could this time include more than three times the amount of children (3,500) than in previous years.

Surprise special guests from the first teams of Hungarian top-tier clubs were also in attendance and at some of the clubs, children were able to take stadium tours, while many primary school pupils were invited to forthcoming league matches.

In line with MLSZ's Sustainability Strategy, children were also able to participate in special environmental education initiatives arranged by Hungarian football's governing body. In addition to the sporting experience, pupils representing a total of more than 80 primary schools were gifted presents by MLSZ such as balls, football-themed books, and autographed cards with Fair Play messages amongst others.

According to the movement's plans, the main goal of the series of activity programmes, to be held annually in the spirit of grassroots sport, is not primarily to find and select talented players, but to organise tournaments with a festival atmosphere in which education institutions near each club can participate, thus popularising football, the movement and the local club amongst children and their families.
