Bokor in line for debut while Mayer makes a return

MTK Budapest's Blanka Bokor is the new face while Zsófia Mayer returns to the international setup in head coach Alexandra Szarvas's latest Hungary Women's squad to face Serbia and Finland in early April.

Hungary Women's head coach Alexandra Szarvas has announced her squad for the Nations League matches at home against Serbia on 4th April and away versus Finland four days later.

Hungary won 2-0 against Belarus in February, but subsequently lost 1-0 against Finland in the Nations League, so the team eagerly awaits its next two matches while lying in third place in their B League group. The squad members will start their preparation in Gyirmót on 31st March, then at 8pm CET on 4th April, they'll face Serbia at the Alcufer Stadium in Gyirmót, before facing Finland in Tampere at 17:30 on 8th April.

This time, Szarvas has called up a newcomer and a returning player; Blanka Bokor of MTK Budapest and Zsófia Mayer of Puskás Akadémia. However, one of Szarvas's key players, Lilla Turányi, can't join the squad due to illness.

"Both opponents are extremely strong. Serbia have achieved several feats in recent years, including a 3-2 win against Germany in 2022 and a 1-0 win against Finland in February. In light of this, I expect a tough, aggressive Serbia team, whose forward line is made up of dangerous players, to whom we need to pay special attention. Finland didn't cause us any surprises in our home match, because, as expected, they had more possession of the ball and dominated. I still think that if we can fight physically, we can play well against them and I expect a similar clash on 8th April. It won't be an easy task, but our aim is to gain points in both matches. As in the previous training camp, the team is in good shape and I trust this will be reflected in the results. It's always a great pleasure for me when a young player can fight for national-team selection through her outstanding performances. Two talented young players join us, whom their clubs count on as regulars every week. Blanka reads the game well, is a technically skilled, well-built player, who can be used as a central defender or midfielder, while Zsófi is fast, also technical, and approaches individual duels bravely. This is her great strength, and in addition to all this, she also understands what she needs to do from the defence," Szarvas stated.

Alexandra Szarvas will hold a public training session on 31st March between 4pm and 6pm CET on the training pitch next to the Gyirmót stadium. After training, those present will have the opportunity to collect autographs from the players, and the association will provide all participants with tickets for the Hungary-Serbia match. Viewing the public training session is subject to prior registration, which can be done at the following e-mail address: sportigazgatosag@mlsz.hu

The match against Serbia will be broadcast live on M4 Sport and tickets for the match can be purchased at meccsjegy.mlsz.hu for a price of 1,500 forints per ticket.
