Euro 2024 preparation starts with 22-player training session
Monday afternoon saw the Hungarian men's football team begin its preparations for the UEFA European Championship which kicks off on 14th June in Germany.
Twenty-two of head coach Marco Rossi's 26-man Hungary squad for this summer's Euro 2024 tournament were already present at the national-team training centre in Telki on Monday, the four players due to arrive later being Martin Ádám, Dániel Gazdag, Bendeguz Bolla and Callum Styles. The afternoon saw all 22 players train on Telki's main pitch but before that, Rossi and squad member Loic Nego took part in the first press conference of the training camp.
Marco Rossi: "Our improvement as a team can be measured by results and the world rankings, but one can use their eyes to see that we are more confident, organised and disciplined team than in previous years. Our group will be tough, nearly as tough as the one at the most recent Euros, but we aren't scared of anyone and await the tournament with confidence. We already proven that we can win against anyone and therefore the best thing we can do now is to prepare as well as possible for this European Championship. I think Germany are the favourites for the tournament, Switzerland always perform well and get through the group stage at the big competitions and Scotland has a very strong team too. We need to progress match by match, so now the match versus Switzerland is the most important to us. We know expectations are high, but this drives us in the right direction."
Loic Nego: It fills us with pride that we can participate in the European Championship and I'm very much looking forward to the matches. I feel that in recent times, our national team has received more respect from its opponents, which has been earned through our results. We await the Euros with confidence and we'll do everything we can to have a successful tournament."
