FTC Women seal Champions League spot

Ferencváros Women came from a goal down to win the third and decisive leg of their UEFA Women's Champions League play-off series with MTK, a 2-1 victory on Thursday ensuring they will represent Hungary in European women's football's premier club competition next season.

Ferencváros had won the first leg of this play-off series 3-2 a fortnight earlier but MTK ensured there'd be a third and deciding match by defeating the Green Eagles 2-1 last week.

This decider was held at Ferencváros' home of the Sándor Kocsis Sports Centre in Budapest but MTK didn't let away-team status deter them, at least initially, as Loretta Németh gave the visitors a sixth-minute lead, the Hungary international capitalising on Ágnes Nagy's intervention after Lilla Nagy's crossfield ball and slotting the ball into the net. Fradi had a 16th-minute equaliser ruled out for offside but finally restored parity just after the half-hour mark when Viktória Szabó headed in a corner.

Things were to get even better for the hosts before half-time when a melée ensued from another corner and the ball bounced off MTK defender Edina Szabó-Fáradi into her own team's goal to put Ferencváros 2-1 up. Chances were at a premium in a more cautious second half and without any clear openings created, the scoreline remained the same, Ferencváros therefore securing a 2-1 win in this best-of-3 contest and the right to represent Hungary in next season's UEFA Women's Champions League competition.
