Gábor Török: Strengthening women’s football will also benefit the men’s game

The President of the Hungarian Football Federation’s Women’s Committee has been speaking to the M4 Sport TV channel about the UEFA Women’s Champions League final, the Hungarian championship system, the development of provincial clubs, and the women’s national team as part of its women’s football magazine show.

At youth level there are about fifty to sixty teams competing nationwide. The aim is that these clubs don’t free players who become too old for the youth setup but initiate their own adult teams in the championship.

The fate of women’s football will be decided by the clubs”, said Gábor Török in the interview given to M4 Sport. The Women’s Football Committee President spoke of it being possible to establish a strong women’s game in Hungary on the basis provided by the men’s clubs. All the champions from the strongest leagues in women’s European football have a major men’s club behind them. There are positive such instances here too, such as at Diósgyőr, Ferencváros, and MTK, while Haladás have also taken steps in the right direction.

Nowadays, thanks to live TV coverage, the women’s game is in the shop window and we must now reach a situation where the men’s clubs don’t simply recognise, but also embrace women’s football. Following the Women’s Champions League final in Budapest, I heard opinions that women’ football today is like men’s football of old: the players are full of respect, honest, and simulation isn’t an issue, but they also know how to play” he added.
