Germany win U17 Euro in Hungary

The U17 European Championship in Hungary has concluded, Germany triumphing over France in the final held in the Hidegkuti Stadion in Budapest.
After winning their group, Germany advanced to the final by beating Switzerland on penalties in the quarter-finals, then overcoming Poland 5-3 in the last four. In the final they met France, whom they had defeated 3-1 in the group stages.
The final was a much closer affair, but in the end it was Germany who again prevailed, this time 5-4 on penalties after a goalless preceding 120 minutes.
One German team member, Bence Dárdai, is in fact ethnically Hungarian and alongside his gold medal he can also boast of having scored a goal in the tournament.
The top five teams in this U17 Euros will also qualify for the FIFA U17 World Cup, that quintet comprising Germany, France, Poland, Spain and England.
