Hungary hold Scotland in closing match of Pinatar Cup
Hungary Women played their last match in the Pinatar Cup in Spain on Tuesday, drawing 0-0 with Scotland and losing the subsequent penalty shootout to ensure a 6th-placed finish in the tournament.
In another even match, there were times when Hungary head coach Margret Kratz's team had more of the ball, but it was rather from corners than open play that they managed to endanger the Scotland goal. The Scots didn't threaten much either but still Barbara Bíró had to make saves in both halves. There weren't to be any goals though so a draw was a fair result. The ensuing penalty shootout was won by Scotland, so they took fifth place and Hungary sixth.
Kratz's charges have tested themselves against three higher-ranked opponents in the past week, and can therefore be happy with their results over 90 minutes; unbeaten with one win and two draws.
"I'm happy with what I saw in the tournament, because we've been able to see a lot of players and try out several formations. It was important to be able to compete with stronger teams than we are, and thanks to this, we were able to develop from match to match. We were united and organised throughout, and only had problems when we had to take penalties, when the girls were a little overwhelmed. Step by step, we have formed a good group here. The younger and more experienced players complement each other perfectly and are able to work well on the pitch", Kratz commented after the match.
