Hungary to host two youth Euro qualifying groups in autumn
The Hungarian Football Federation has been awarded the hosting rights to the men's U17 and U19 European Championship qualifying mini-tournaments.
Last week, the group schedules for next season’s U17 and U19 European Championship mini-tournaments were finalised, but after the draw it was still not known which national teams would be the hosts. We know there was plenty of competition for the hosting rights, but Hungary successfully applied to hosts two groups, those which will feature players born in 2003 and 2005.
During the draw, our U17 team (the age group born in 2005), ranked amongst the top seeds on the continent, was placed in Group 4 with Iceland as second seeds, Georgia from the third pot and Estonia from the fourth. This European Championship qualifying mini-tournament will take place in Telki between 22-28 October.
Meanwhile, our U19 squad (the 2003 age group) were pitted against Austria from the first pot of seeds, Belarus from the third pot and Estonia from the fourth. This mini-tournament will be played between 6th and 12th October.
The 2022 U17 European Championship will be held in Israel and the U19 European Championship in Slovakia.
