Men's national team: Rossi forced to call up replacements

Hungary head coach Marco Rossi has called up four more players to his men's squad to take on Turkey and Russia in their first two fixtures of the Nations League campaign later this week.

It was last Monday when Marco Rossi announced his Hungary squad for these two Nations League matches in early September, a group which was already not his ideal selection because of injury and players not yet being attached to new teams.

Then, last Friday afternoon, it turned out that Budapest Honvéd duo Botond Baráth and Krisztián Tamás were also injured, so in their place Marco Rossi called up two Lugano players, Ákos Kecskés and Filip Holender. The selection of the former increased the number of potential debutants in the squad to five and that number rose again to six when MOL Fehérvár defender Bendegúz Bolla replaced the injured Endre Botka. Further withdrawals from the squad due to coronavirus concerns within their club squads include Dániel Gazdag (replaced by Máté Pátkai) and Mihály Korhut, added to which the latter's replacement Szilveszter Hangya had to pull out yesterday through injury.

The squad has congregated on Margit Island and will travel to Sivas in Turkey on Wednesday night ahead of Thursday evening's match. They'll then return to Hungary and face Russia in the Puskás Aréna.
