Men's Under 21s: Gera announces squad for match in Slovenia
Our U21 national team, which is preparing for next year's jointly-hosted U21 European Championship in Hungary and Slovenia, will play in an international match on September 7th against their co-hosts.
The U21 national team led by Zoltán Gera last played in an international match last November, because since then, due to the coronavirus epidemic, all scheduled fixtures were cancelled. In September, however, there will again be an opportunity for a match during the FIFA matchday calendar, so Hungary's U21s will travel to Slovenia.
Head coach Zoltán Gera can't count on Attila Szalai, Adrián Szőke and András Schäfer this time, all three of them having been called up to the full national team, so the coaching staff will see several new players such as Nikolasz Kovács of Ajka; 18-year-old Botond Balogh who was part of last year's U17 World Cup squad, Kristóf Tóth-Gábor, who has been playing for Budapest Honvéd since the summer; MTK's Szabolcs Mezei and Budafók's Ronald Takács, who are both performing well in the top flight so far this season and the midfield duo at Vasas, Sándor M. Hidi, and Márk Kleisz, the latter of whom has recovered from a long-term injury.
The squad will meet on August 30th, play a warm-up match with Budafok on September 3rd, and then travel to Slovenia on September 6th, where they will play against the host team the following day.
