MLSZ frees up more time for Euro 2024 preparation

The MLSZ Executive Board has adjusted next year's domestic competition calendar to further enable a successful European Championship preparation, so Hungary's top tier of league football, the OTP Bank Liga, is now scheduled to finish a week earlier in May 2024.

The Hungarian men's national football team coached by Marco Rossi will begin its Euro 2024 campaign in Germany with a match against Switzerland on 15th June and now, the squad's preparation period can begin immediately following the conclusion of Hungary's domestic league. In order to give the staff and players a week's extra time, MLSZ's leadership has modified the end of the 2023-2024 season from 25th May to 18th May.

To facilitate this, a full round of OTP Liga fixtures will be held on the spare day scheduled for 7th February, the original schedule having already dictated that the spring's opening round will be held on the weekend of 3rd February.

It was also decided that the winter transfer period for professional footballers will last from 18th January to 14th February 2024. The date of the 2024 annual general assembly of MLSZ delegates is set for 5th April.
