RangAdo Prizegiving Gala: Lanzafame voted NBI's best player
Budapest Honvéd's Italian striker David Lanzafame won the Hungarian OTP Bank Liga's Best Player award at the MLSZ RangAdó Gala on Sunday after his 18 goals made him the league's top goalscorer this season.
Last Saturday's event in the Budapest Music Centre was broadcast live by M4 Sport and marked the end of this season at club level. The first awards saw Debrecen's Kevin Varga voted best new talent and Paks coach Aurél Csertői take the Coach of the Year award.
MLSZ President Sándor Csányi was absent due to a minor illness so his speech, in which it was stated it is difficult to imagine a more exciting top-tier championship than this season's, was given by vice president Sándor Berzi.
"Teams needed to fight for every position, In the end, two teams battled for the league title and both were deserving of the gold medal", Berzi added.
Most of the award winners were selected by the clubs' team captains, head coaches and youngest and oldest players, each one selecting a top three in each category. The one exception to this was the best goal of the year which was voted for by fans, the winner this year being Dániel Gazdag's strike for Honvéd against Balmazújváros, a goal which can be viewed on the www.mlsz.hu website.
