Rossi: We've no reason to feel ashamed

Hungary's head coach emphasised that his players did what had been asked of them against Serbia so their attitude shouldn't be questioned, but it is a pity that unforced errors led to the single-goal defeat.

Hungary Men lost 1-0 to Serbia in the Puskás Arena, but had been a hair's breadth away from a late equaliser. Head coach Marco Rossi said there was no reason to criticise the team.

"We played a balanced match in all respects against a Serbian national team full of top players who play for top clubs. It’s no coincidence that Jovic plays for Real Madrid, not Szeged, for example", Rossi told the post-match press conference. "Tonight, the performance of the team was OK in many ways, I was satisfied with the attitude and desire, we played at the right speed and we won a lot of balls, but we also gave away the ball sometimes. The latter was perhaps the only aspect of the match that I was not happy with. From a tactical point of view, I liked what I saw, we used the ball well and built attacks, but a losing the ball a lot caused a lot of problems. Immediately after getting the ball, we tried to play the ball long, but it would have been better to keep it sometimes and build our attacks more patiently.

Overall, we were able to leave the pitch with our heads held high; we have no reason to be ashamed, because we played football with a good attitude and the statistics also show that we have competed well with Serbia. The players were able to leave the pitch with their chins up and there is no reason to be ashamed of today's performance. I was also happy with the two debutants; they settled into the match well, and of two of them, Callum (Styles) had more touches of the ball and some quick starts to attacks, which gave the team momentum on the left side".
