Sándor Csányi's message to supporters
"There is nothing more important for the Hungarian national team than always being able to play its matches in front of a capacity crowd and with the encouragement of the Hungarian fans."
Dear Supporters,
As President of the Hungarian Football Federation, I would like to thank you once again for creating a fantastic atmosphere at the European Championship matches, which clearly contributed to the honourable performance of the Hungarian men's national team. Thank you also to those fans who, despite the difficulties in travelling, supported the team abroad.
On Sunday, the Puskás Arena will host another match, this time the Round-of-16 tie between Netherlands and Czech Republic, a match which tens of thousands of Hungarian spectators will once again attend having already bought tickets. In order for Hungary to continue to host prestigious sporting events in the future and, at least as importantly, for the Hungarian national team to be able to play its matches always and at all times in front of capacity crowds full of encouragement, a sporting atmosphere is essential, in addition to excellent local organisation. As a host, widespread international recognition must be gained in this regard too.
We respect the players and fans of the participating teams!
I ask everyone to show their support in a sporting manner from every aspect, and to refrain from whistling during the national anthems, as well as from displaying any discriminatory (for example, racist, homophobic or chauvinistic) behaviour which would overshadow the laudable achievements of the Hungarian national team and supporters which are worthy of recognition, and thus also cloud others' judgement of our country. Please keep this in mind even when we experience provocation on the part of others.
I am asking you for the above not for the sake of the Hungarian Football Federation, but for the sake of Hungarian football, the supporters and the Hungarian national team.
Thank you in advance for your encouragement and your sporting and responsible behaviour!
Dr Sándor Csányi, MLSZ President
