Sportspeople of the Year Awards: Marco Rossi and men's national team in contention
Nine days before the 2022 M4 Sport-Sportspeople of the Year Gala on January 9, the Hungarian Sports Journalists' Association (MSÚSZ), which organises the gala, held a press conference at its new location, Budapest's Opera House.
It has been a decades-old tradition that Hungarian sports journalists vote for the best sportspeople, teams and coaches of the year in an MSÚSZ poll. This year's football successes have been recognised by the nation's sports journalists, with representatives of the sport in contention for awards in three categories.
In the sports moment of the year category, Kristoffer Zachariassen's goal in Ferencváros's Europa League match against Monaco, with which the club secured first place in their group, is one of three goals to be vying for top spot.
In traditional team sports, the Hungarian national team and Ferencváros are both nominated for team of the year after both were included in the top three along with Sopron's women's basketball team, while Marco Rossi is again among the best in the coach of the year category.
Among the presenters of the awards, there will also be a famous football face, Fabio Capello, formerly a winner of the UEFA Champions League with AC Milan, after he accepted the organisers' invitation to attend.
