Szarvas announces first Hungary Women squad
Newly-appointed women's national team coach Alexandra Szarvas, has called up 26 players - including one new face and one returnee - to the squad’s training camp starting next Monday, during which Szarvas’s charges will prepare for forthcoming European Championship qualifying matches on 5th and 9th April.
Alexandra Szarvas’s Hungary Women will host Azerbaijan in Szeged at 17:45 on 5th April, before travelling to Istanbul to face Turkey at 19:00 CET on 9th April.
Via her selections, head coach Szarvas has given a vote of confidence to a new goalkeeper, Lauren Brzykcy, and a returning player, Anna Csiki, and since this will bethe first time she’s met the group, the new head coach has selected a larger number of players than normal, 22 squad members + 4 reserves instead of the usual 20+3 reserves.
"Both the Azeri and the Turkish teams can be said to be quite physical teams who enjoy that aspect of the game, while each side also has good players individually. They should not be underestimated in any way, so we’ll prepare with full concentration and humility. I’ve announced a squad of 22+4 players in order to get to know as many players as possible, since there are no more preparation matches after this one. I’ve also invited a high-quality new goalkeeper of American-Hungarian origin to the squad. Furthermore, Anna Csiki is returning to the national team after a long absence due to a knee injury, which I’m very happy about, because she’s an excellent player and will be a great help to the team in all areas,” Szarvas explained.
Tickets for the home match against Azerbaijan in the Szent Gellért Forum in Szeged can be purchased at meccsjegy.mlsz.hu for a price of HUF 1,500 per ticket. The match will be broadcast live by M4 Sport at 17:45 CET on 5th April.
