Zoltán Gera: I'm sad about the result but proud of the boys

Following their 2-1 defeat, both coach and the players reflected on taking the lead, battling a numerical disadvantage, defending under great pressure and trying to equalise.

Team captain Bolla Bendegúz said after the  they had been ready to play such an intense match: "We knew there would be a lot of battles; it was a very fiery match. It was very difficult to play a full second half with ten people, but we still took the lead. Then in the last moments we conceded an avoidable goal from a corner".

The scorer of Hungary's goal, András Csonka, felt that Romania team put a lot of pressure on our team, which only increased after his strike: "We came out for the second half with the desire to score at least one point. We fought all the way, but unfortunately it didn't work out. I would have been happy with my goal if we hadn't lost", the Budafok player said.

Meanwhile, Zoltán Gera emphasised that he is proud of his players, after they'd fought hard with just ten men: "It's annoying that they scored a goal from a set-piece, but we have proven today we can perform well even despite our young age. Eighty percent of our squad is younger than the current U21 age group, so they could even feature in the next edition (of the U21 Euros). This match against Romania has shown that this is a team of the future, on which we can count in the long term!".
