Marco Rossi: We'll need a tactically flawless game against Germany
Going into the last group match, the Hungarian national team still has a chance to qualify for the knockout stages of the European Championship. Marco Rossi and Péter Gulácsi were asked about this and their German opponents at Tuesday's press conference.
Hungary have only one match left in the group stages of the European Championship and they are still fighting to reach the last 16. However, standing in their way is one of the best teams in the world, Germany. To prosper against them, Hungary head coach Marco Rossi has said his team will need a tactically flawless game and luck will have to be on their side.
"We played well against Portugal and then we improved against the French, but we need to improve even more to get a good result against Germany," Rossi admitted at a press conference at today's venue, the Allianz Arena. "I've said many times that football is a simple game. The fact that your opponent has the ball also means he will come to you soon, but usually whoever possesses the ball more has better technical skills. We also need to be aware of our strengths and weaknesses and concentrate throughout the match".
Marco Rossi also expressed that the Hungarian national team will play against a tank, the German national team consisting of very physically strong players whose technical skills are also outstanding.
"There was no problem with our physical condition in recent matches and my team also engages in one-on-one challenges with full force. Sometimes we lose them, but we're always up for the battle".
In the end, of course, journalists also asked Rossi about the chances of qualification, his response being that his team has a right to believe it can achieve a great feat because it has already put in a lot of hard work and effort.
"We want to prove this, to ourselves, our families and our fans. We knew before the tournament and we've seen in the last few matches how proud the fans are of our performance and of the attitude we have when we play our opponents. I would like to see the same attitude tomorrow, the outcome depending on a lot of factors, including luck".
The other participant in the press conference, Péter Gulácsi, will be familiar with tomorrow's venue having already played at the Allianz Arena several times as the goalkeeper of RB Leipzig, and he is confident that his team will be able to win here.
"Wednesday is a special match for me as I've played several times in the Allianz Arena and I know most of the members of the Germany team," Hungary's number one began. “We don’t have to prepare so much for players, but we need to prepare as a team for the Germans and we need to be aware of their strengths and weaknesses. We've tried to analyse their games and we hope we'll be as effective as 85 minutes against Portugal and 95 minutes against France".
Gulácsi then moved on discuss the opponent's goalkeeper, Manuel Neuer, one of the best in the world, whom he considers to be the best goalkeeper of the last decade, because he'd already won everything possible and had been able to help his teams at important moments.
"My goal tomorrow is to have one more save, one more success than Manuel Neuer, and to make my team successful." We can achieve something great tomorrow, but it will not be easy. We will do everything we can to make our family, the Hungarian fans, proud".
Bayern Munich midfielder Thomas Müller won't be in the Germany team due to a knee problem, but Gulácsi says his team's task will not be much easier even if Müller cannot play.
"As a team, we need to perform well, defend well, close space and be compact. If we succeed, a match similar to the one against the French could come together, hopefully with a slightly better outcome".
