MOL Hungarian Cup: Title-holder Honvéd drawn to play county-level opponent

There are now 64 teams competing for domestic cup glory and Europa League qualification and of these, only the OTP Bank Liga teams were seeded in the draw for the 7th round.

The 2020-2021 MOL Hungarian Cup started with the entry of 480 teams from around the country. Most of these entrants started their participation in the county qualifiers at the beginning of August, from which 47 clubs eventually progressed. The first round proper, which featured 128 clubs, was played on the weekend of September 18-20 with a few matches rearranged for later dates due to postponements caused by the coronavirus pandemic.

At the end of July, MOL announced that it would become the prestigious, 111-year-old men's Hungarian Cup competition's naming sponsor, so the MOL Hungarian Cup will be the tournament's official name for five years from the 2020–2021 season. Thanks to MOL's support, the men's Hungarian Cup is completely different to before; the image of the Cup has been reinvigorated. The system of participation was also reorganised in order to include as many teams as possible and to make the journey to the Puskás Aréna as exciting as possible.

After the identity of the last qualifier from Round Six became clear, seven-time Cup winner Tamás Szekeres and three-time winner Attila Tököli conducted the 7th round draw in the M4 Sport television studio. Among the 64 teams still dreaming of lifting the trophy is the full complement of OTP Bank Liga and Merkantil Bank Liga clubs, added to which there is prepresentation from the national third tier and county first-division level. The matches are due to take place from 27th to 29th October.

Highlights of the draw include MOL Fehérvár travelling to Gárdony of National League III and defending champions Honvéd being drawn away to county first-level club Csácsbozsok-Nemesapáti SE. Mezőkövesd, finalists in the previous edition, will make the trip to NB III side Gyöngyös, while Békéscsaba of NB II, victors over Ferencváros last season, will entertain DVTK. UEFA Champions League participants Ferencváros won't need to travel far, only to Bicske of NB III.
