Preisinger announces provisional U17 World Cup squad
Twenty outfield players and three goalkeepers have so far been called to Hungary's squad for the Men's FIFA U17 World Cup. Head coach Sándor Preisinger will reduce the squad to 21 by next Wednesday.
Preisinger's squad is preparing for the FIFA U17 World Cup and will travel to the tournament in Brazil on 19th October ahead of their first group fixture a week later against Nigeria. There will be 18 outfield players and three goalkeepers in each World Cup squad and teams will be required to submit their final list of names on 16th October, following which date amendments are only possible before the start of the tournament in case of injury. Sándor Preisinger will announce his World Cup squad on the day of the entry deadline, but a 23-man list has been named nowand these players will train together from 16th October at Telki.
Goiania will be our base
The Hungarian national team will play all their three group matches in Goiania, a city with a population of one-and-a-half million, at the Olympic Stadium which has a capacity of 13,500. The first match against Nigeria will kick off at 22:00 CET on 26th October with the second fixture coming three days later against Australia at midnight CET on 29th October. The third and final group match comes at 21:00 CET on 1st November against Ecuador. At the end, the top two teams from each group plus the top four third-placed nations from across the six groups will advance to the round of 16.
"Unless something unexpected occurs, twenty-one of these twenty-three players in the provisional squad will be a member of the official World Cup squad. However, until the start of the tournament, I am also counting on the two players who will ultimately miss out, as there is potential for change before the start of the World Cup in case of injury. This means that if those two players agree, all twenty-three footballers will come to Brazil with us and if there are no injuries, the two reserves will leave the tournament after the first match", Preisinger told MLSZ.hu.
Perhaps predictably, the selection of the squad is based on the World Cup qualifiers, with eighteen of the 2019 European Championship squad which finished fifth in Ireland selected again. Preisinger can count on all the players who were invited to the autumn training camps including the duo of Gábor Buna and Ákos Zuigeber, who were absent from September's warm-up matches in Croatia due to injury.
