Appreciating the past is the key to the future

The Foundation was recently established to help former national team players in difficult situations or in need of financial help. In 2014, the National-team Footballers Club was formed, which now has more than a hundred members. MLSZ welcomes all former men's and women's footballers to these friendly, quarterly-held gatherings. 

This time, the former international footballers present remembered recent significant birthdays and some of their most important matches, these such occasions bringing much unrestrained laughter and good humour. The club also regularly invites guests, who typically attract great interest, mostly in relation to football, of course.

Furthermore, MLSZ has also thought about those players who would still like to pull their football boots back on. The Hungarian Old Boys national team was formed in 2017 and is led by former successful club and national-team coach Imre Gellei.

In addition, these former Hungarian football greats have their own sector in the national stadium (the Puskás Arena), from where they can support the national team. Former men's and women's national-team footballers and head coaches are regularly invited to the national team matches. The initiative called the Legends Sector also delights many fans, who take the opportunity to have their photograph taken with their former favourites and legends of Hungarian football.

The MLSZ therefore continues to make great efforts to show its appreciation for them, because it has already long-recognised that there is no positive future without respect for tradition.
