Belvon names squad for home U17 Euro
Hungary men's U17 coach Attila Belvon has finalised his UEFA U17 Euro squad which consists of 18 outfield players and three goalkeepers.
In the previous week of the warm-up period, several members of the provisional squad suffered from minor or major injuries, meaning Dániel Radnóti, Bence Balabás and Domonkos Ásványi left the training camp early on, while other players had to miss training. Belvon and his backroom staff selected their final squad for the U17 Euro on Monday, a few days later than planned, and no more players can be called up during the tournament.
The squad trained in Telki on Monday morning, then moved to Margitsziget, the headquarters of the European Championship. Since Sunday, the squad has been focused on preparing for their first game against Wales and the tactics they'll employ against them.
Wednesday night's opponents have strong, fast forwards, for example, Gabriele Biancheri who is a Manchester United player, and Frederick Issaka who has already made his debut for Plymouth Argyle's first team. Wales also have talented midfielders, so even though Wales are preparing for the first U17 European Championship in their history, it will be a particularly difficult match:
"We had to make several difficult decisions when we selected the final squad and thought a lot about the best composition", Belvon commented. "Those who were left out also did a great job during the preparation period and they also fully deserved to be members of the squad. I'm glad that everyone has been completing full training sessions since Saturday and I'm confident that new injuries won't make it difficult for us during the tournament. Our opponent on Wednesday, Wales, are very strong, but we have a plan for the match and we've tried to prepare for all eventualities. I expect our group to be very tight, so every goal will be of great importance, which is why a good start will be important. I'm confident that we will successfully overcome the first obstacle".
