Berettyóújfalu reach last 16 in Europe
Hungarian futsal's league champions defeated Omonia Nicosia 2-0 in the last 32 of the futsal Champions League at the weekend to reach the round of 16.
MVFC Berettyóújfalu overcame Georgia's champions in the previous round before being drawn away to Cyprus' best, Omonia Nicosia, in a single-match tie. The visitors started well and took a fourth-minute lead through Rafinha, which they retained during an otherwise tight first half.
The second period started with the Hungarian club in the ascendancy and they exploited that by doubling their advantage through János Rábl in the 25th minute. Thereafter, the match was an open one and there were opportunities on both sides, but although the hosts tried everything, it was in vain, Berettyóújfalu winning 2-0 and deservedly advancing to the last 16.
The draw for the round before the quarter-finals will be held on Thursday, where it will be revealed which team MVFC will play for a place in the last eight.
