Budafok win on return to top flight
Seventy-four years after their last appearance in Hungary's top tier, Budafók MTE marked their return to such heights with an exciting and imressive 2-1 victory over Kisvárda.
The hosts were more active from the very first minute and were clearly intent on prompting attacks whenever the opportunity arose. None more so than Budafok captain Dávid Kovács, who at 28 was making his top-flight debut, and it was he who swept the hosts into an early lead in the 13th minute. That lead lasted only four minutes before Fernando Viana equalised for Kisvárda with a superb solo effort, but Budafok weren't to be denied a famous first win of the season.
Firstly, goalkeeper Dániel Póser produced some excellent saves as the visitors piled on the pressure at the start of the second half, then Gergő Vaszicsku - by then wearing the captain's armband after Kovács had been replaced - found the net following a corner. Budafok preseved their slender lead for the remaining ten minutes plus added time, despite the monsoon conditions as heavy rain suddenly descended.
