Dávid Sigér: I'll shoot from distance if I get the chance

On Friday, the main focus of the national team's training session was tactics, with only Dániel Gazdag working separately from the rest of the squad. Dávid Sigér and Szabolcs Schön then answered questions from journalists at a press conference held at the national media centre.

"I don't think it is individuals who should be highlighted, but the system and approach with which the head coach selects the players," said Ferencváros midfielder Sígér, who said a parallel could be drawn between Fradi's Champions League matches and the European Championships. "It may be some advantage that some of us were able to compete with opponents who were playing for strong teams and were at the top of their game not so long ago. I think this experience can be used by us at international level too".

Sigér also mentioned that if he had the opportunity, he would try to shoot from distance, but it wouldn't be his task to take free-kicks.

"We want to score goals and it would be a disappointment if it didn't work out that we would. Of course, we also want to gain points, but it will also depend on which way the stars are aligned".

Finally, the EURO 2016 match against Portugal was also remembered by the player who made his debut for the national team in 2019:

"Five years ago in Debrecen, I watched the Portuguese match with my family and a lot of fans on an outdoor giant screen. It felt great and I'll never forget when people jumped up for the three Hungarian goals. It feels good to think that now I too might be able to be on the pitch to help bring such joy to the fans and the Hungarian people".

And Szabolcs Schön, who at club level was transferred abroad to FC Dallas in the USA earlier this year, spoke of how pleased he was to have been called up to the full squad for the first time and to be included in the European Championship finals squad:

"Every minute that I can spend here in the national team counts a lot, and I won’t be frustrated even if I only get few opportunities on the pitch. I'm still young, so it's not going to be my European Championship yet, as I know I have to still improve" said the Hungarian league's Young Player of the Year for the 2020-2021 season. "We have to go step by step and always put on our best performance in the next match", Schön concluded.
