Encouraging starts for Hungarian clubs in Europe

Ferencváros got their 2021/22 UEFA Champions League campaign off to a fine start by winning 3-0 at home against FC Prishtina, while both MOL Fehérvár and Puskás Akadémia played out 1-1 draws in their first-round, first-leg matches in the new UEFA Conference League.

UEFA launches its third club trophy this season, the Champions League and the Europa League, being joined now by the Conference League. Hungarian champions Ferencváros started their latest Champions League season in fine style, three goals in the last 20 minutes from Nguen, R. Mmaee and Blazic sealing a 3-0 victory at home again Kosovan champions FC Prishtina, while last season's second and third-placed teams in the OTP Bank Liga, Puskás Akadémia and MOL Fehérvár began their Conference League campaigns with 1-1 draws, the former falling behind away against Inter Turku but equalising through Plsek in the 76th minute, and the latter taking a late lead at home to Yerevan courtesy of a Marcel Heister goal but then conceding a leveller in second-half added time.

The second legs will be played this coming week and once the Conference League reaches the second-round stage, Hungarian Cup winner Újpest FC will enter the competition.
