Europa League: Fradi edged out in Scotland

Ferencváros face an uphill struggle to finish third in their Europa League group after being beaten 2-0 away at Glasgow Celtic on Tuesday.

The first chance of the match actually fell to Ryan Mmaee of Ferencváros, but that was spurned and, despite a proactive start, the Scottish hosts soon settled into the game, forcing the first save of the game from Ferencváros goalkeeper Dénes Dibusz. Although Celtic played with clear dominance, Hungar's title holders didn't give up on the chance to attack, their sporadic forays forward also posing a danger.

Neither goalkeeper had much to do before the half-time break though, despite the two teams- both used to playing in green and white shirts - playing a high tempo.
The second half saw Celtic pressurise the visitors evenmore and that resulted in a breakthrough, Furuhasi converting in the 57th minute to put the hosts ahead. The goal shook Fradi and the Scottish club could even have doubled their advantage, but Dibusz did excellently to save Callum McGregor's penalty.

That led to somewhat of a restabilisation by the away team but still they found it difficult to penetrate Celtic's defence and eventually their tiredness became evident. The 1967 European Cup winners took advantage of this, deciding the fate of the three points with an 81st-minute goal from David Turnbull and then threatening to score even more.

The group’s other match will be played on Thursday evening by Real Betis of Spain and Bayer Leverkusen of Germany, with Ferencváros hosting Celtic at the Groupama Arena on 4th November.
