Ferencváros secure 32nd Hungarian league title
Serhiy Rebrov's Ferencváros eased to a routine 3-0 victory over city rivals Újpest last night and in doing so, confirmed themselves as 2020/21 Hungarian league champions.
There had never been any real doubt all season about who would become champions of Hungary this time round, Ferencváros leading the 12-strong field throughout, and they reconfirmed their status as the country's best football team by claiming their 32nd league title at home in the Groupama Aréna.
Regaining their title came in surely what must have been preferred style, a comprehensive victory against their closest rivals Újpest coming courtesy of a Tokmac Nguen goal on the half-hour mark, which was sandwiched between two strikes from Uzuni - the second from the penalty spot 13 minutes from full-time. The result extends Ferenváros' winning run against Újpest to over two years and seven matches - five as the host team, and they have now gone 591 minutes without conceding a goal against the Lilacs.
