Ferencváros take derby spoils at Megyeri út
As in the autumn, a Franck Boli goal gave Ferencváros victory away at traditional rivals Újpest FC in their rearranged match from the 20th round of the OTP Bank Liga, the Green Eagles thereby increasing their lead to nine points at the top of the table.
The OTP Bank Liga is back underway and featured two rearranged Ferencváros matches upon its resumption, firstly last Saturday when Debrecen were beaten 2-1 and then on Wednesday this week when Serhiy Rebrov's team travelled to the Ferenc Szusza Stadion to take on capital-city rivals Újpest. They started well too, taking a seventh-minute lead thanks to Franck Boli's shot into the bottom-right corner of the home-team goal from 19 metres. Boli continued to prompt Fradi's attacks thereafter, while for the hosts, Krisztián Simon struck the crossbar from distance in the 26th minute.
The game remained open after the half-time break and Újpest, playing at a higher tempo than before, started to control proceedings, but they couldn't find an equaliser. Ferencváros thus survived a stern test and even ended the match a man up when Újpest's Burekovic was dismissed for a second bookable offence in added time.
Ferencváros now hold a nine-point lead over second-placed MOL Fehérvár while Újpest's poor run against their big rivals continues; they haven't defeated Ferencváros since the middle of December 2015.
