Five top-flight clubs exit Hungarian Cup in last 32
Even before the 4th round of the MOL Hungarian Cup on Wednesday, it was certain that at least two OTP Bank Liga teams would bid farewell to the competition, the ZTE-Budapest Honvéd and Kisvárda-MTK Budapest clashes featuring all top-flight clubs.
Kisvárda defeated the blue-and-whites, who had rested several of their regular starters, easily, while Budapest Honvéd overcame ZTE with a goal from Nono in extra time.
Three other National League I teams fell short against lower-league rivals, DVSC crashing out to Kecskemét, Puskás Akadémia being overcome 1-0 by ETO FC Győr and Mezőkövesd bidding farewell to the competition on penalties at the home of Szeged.
Gyirmót FC Győr also missed two penalties in their penalty shootout, but Haladás missed three times, so Aurél Csertői's team managed to edge through to Round of 16. Defending champions Újpest FC suffered in Budafok, but Beridze's brace (he scored his second goal in the 88th minute) ensured that their title defence continues.
Vasas only needed a single goal to progress in Jászberény, while Ferencváros racked up seven goals in Tököl's home stadium. Szegedi VSE were knocked out by Cegléd, which means there are no county-level teams left in the tournament, but NB III will definitely be represented by Nagykanizsa and Cegléd in the last 16 as a minimum.
The Kazincbarcika v Diósgyőr VTK match will take place on Thursday, 28th October (7:30pm), and the BVSC-Zugló v Mol Fehérvár and the III. kerület TVE v Paks FC tie will be held on 3rd November (12:30pm). Following the match in Kazincbarcika, the Round of 16 draw will be broadcast live by M4 Sport.
