Fradi to continue in Europa League after Young Boys loss

Having lost the first leg against Young Boys 3-2, Ferencváros head coach Peter Stöger would have been under no illusions that victory at home in his team's Champions League play-off second leg would be essential if they were to continue this season's European adventure in the Champions League rather than the Europa League.

However, the outlook look bleak after just four minutes when Zesiger headed in a corner to give the Swiss visitors an early lead. To their credit, Fradi kept their cool and levelled matters 14 minutes later when Wingo capitalised on a goalkeeping mistake and the Hungarian champions were looking even better in the 28th minute when Ryan Mmaee edged the hosts into a 2-1 lead on the night, thereby levelling the tie at 3-3.

The next goal would be crucial but unfortunately it fell the way of Young Boys, Fassnacht tucking the ball past Fradi goalkeeper Dénes Dibusz from close range after a low, right-wing cross in the 58th minute. Ferencváros's task became even harder when Laidouni was dismissed in the 64th minute for a second bookable offence and Young Boys sealed qualification to the group stages of this season's Champions League with Mambimbi's 93-minute winner. Ferencváros will now drop into the group stages of the UEFA Europa League, the drawfor which is on Friday 27th August.
