Futsal action returns on Friday

The men’s NB I futsal championship begins on Friday with the two teams in green and white, FTC-Fisher Klima welcoming Haladás in the opening match.

No champion was announced last season, nor was there any relegation as the coronavirus pandemic put an early end to the campaign in spring, so this season's championship will start with an unchanged field. The only change is that Rubeola has merged with Újpest and will start the season under the name Újpest RFC 220-Volt, as the new squad builds on the cores of the two former teams.

As far as the balance of power is concerned, no significant changes are expected, MVFC Berettyóújfalu and Haladás again expected to stand out from the field and compete for the title. At Berettyóújfalu, team captain János Trencsényi has retired and has taken a coaching role, but he has been replaced by another Hungarian national-team member, János Rábl, who was in Italy last season but has now returned to the club.

MVFC Berettyóújfalu will also represent Hungary in the new edition of the futsal Champions League, the draw for which is scheduled for 15th September. While there are still uncertainties regarding its operation, it seems certain that the MVFC will not have to play qualifiers and will instead join the tournament in the Main Round.

Every Friday, M4 Sport will present a weekly futsal programme with summaries of each round of the league and interesting news of Hungarian futsal life. The league summaries will also be posted on MLSZ's YouTube channel every Wednesday.
