Gera announces U21 squad for Croatia and Slovenia tests

Hungary Under-21's head coach Zoltán Gera has called up several new faces to his squad for the friendly matches against Croatia on 11th October and Slovenia on 15th October.

Our U21 national team played its first international matches under the guidance of Zoltán Gera in September, drawing 0-0 against hosts Denmark and losing 3-0 at home to Norway in the Pancho Arena.

Gera's charges have two more fixtures this month, firstly when they entertain the Croatians in Zalaegerszeg at 20:00 CET on 11th October (tickets are available here: http://meccsjegy.mlsz.hu/hun/Event/57003208/Magyarorszag---Horvatorszag) and then four days later when they travel to Celje for a match against their 2021 Under-21 European Championship co-hosts Slovenia.

Based on the experience of the two September matches, Gera Zera has invited several new players to join up with his squad, which will this time feature seven footballers who play their club football abroad. Kristóf Korbély from Diósgyőr is called up to the national-team setup for the first time and he will be joined by Zoltán Varjas, who plays his club football in the Slovak second division, and Kevin Csoboth who is on his way home from Portugal. Csoboth's former international teammate at U19 level, Martin Majnovics, is now based in Mattersburg, Austria, and his call-up takes to eight the number of squad members born in 2000, the same amount of those born in 1998 and one more than the group born in 1999.

"We have learned the lessons of previous matches and now we have to focus on the next fixtures. Again, we are playing against two very strong rivals, so it is important that we make progress in every aspect of the game, especially compared to our displayagainst Norway. As I mentioned at the beginning of our work together, we have put together a long list of players who could step up to the U21 national squad, so we want to get to know more about them in order to select the best squad possible. Against this backdrop, the new players will be given a chance to prove themselves in the week and a half ahead," Zoltán Gera told mlsz.hu.
