Gera completes his U21 backroom staff
Seventy-nine-times-capped former Hungarian international defender Vilmos Vanczák is confirmed as a member of the backroom staff for the U21 national squad led by former international teammate Zoltán Gera.
It had already been announced last month that former national team member György Sándor would be one of Gera's assistants and now we know that another of his former teammates, 79-time-capped defender Vilmos Vanczák, will also be joining the staff along with goalkeeping coach Zoltán Végh, fitness coach László Gáspár and video analyst István Beregi.
Thirty-six year-old Vanczák made his Hungarian league debut for Újpest FC in 2002 before playing aboad for ten years in Belgium and Switzerland with Sint-Truiden and FC Sion repsectively. He was a fixture at right-back at international level from 2004 to 2015 before winding down his playing career back home at Puskás Akadémia.
Former goalkeeper Végh, meanwhile, is a veteran of 570 Hungarian top-flight matches with the likes of Győri ETO, Vasas, BVSC, MTK and Videoton and was capped 25 times by eight different Hungary head coaches at international level.
"I am very pleased to have the team I'd envisioned for my appointment because everyone will be able to help with these youngsters' preparations," Gera commented to mlsz.hu.
Hungary's U21 national team will not participate in Euro 2021 qualification process because they will be automatically present at the finals as joint-hosts with Slovenia. Instead, their first warm-up match will take place in September in Denmark but before that, Zoltán Gera will hold a two-day training camp on 12-13 August.
