Haladás battle to Hungarian Futsal Cup glory
The Szombathely club raced into a two-goal lead in front of their own fans but fellow Men's Hungarian Futsal Cup finalists Berettyóújfalu recovered to level matters by half-time. Haladás regained their advantage in the second period though and this time there was no response from their opponents.
The dream final was set up on Saturday when the two teams occupying the first and second places in the Hungarian futsal league championship eased into Sunday's showpiece event, holders MVFC Berettyóújfalu overcoming 5 Stars Érdi VSE 6-3 and Haladás cruising past Veszprém 4-0 in the two semi-final contests.
There were several thousand fans present in the Aréna Savaria in Szombathely, naturally the majority supporting local favourites Haladás, but there was also a sizeable contingent cheering on Berettyóújfalu. The match, when it came, was predictably hard-fought but Haladás made the better start, Richárd Dávid and Péter Horváth hoisting their side into a two-goal lead after 12 minutes. Back came Berettyóújfalu though and their spirited recovery was complete when Yubero added to István Gál's goal to restore parity just before half-time.
Both sides had chances to edge in front in the second period and eventually it was Caetano de Abreu who put Haladás ahead in the 26th minute. MVFC were unable to respond this time despite deploying a 'Flying Goalkeeper' and instead Ádám Vas secured victory for western Hungarian team by adding a fourth goal in the dying stages of the match.
This was Haladás's second Cup win in their history but Berettyóújfalu can still gain revenge for this cup defeat in the league, since it is most likely that these two clubs will contest the league championship final too.
