Honouring the memory of Márton Fülöp

A goalkeeping camp which bears the name of the Hungary national team goalkeeper Márton Fülöp who died tragically at the age of 32, is now in its fourth year, young goalkeeping hopefuls being put through their paces in Balatonfüred and Balatonarács this week by the top goalkeeping coaches in the country.

Twenty-four young goalkeepers from across the country aged 15-16 are currently being put through their paces at the Fülöp Márton Kapustábor (Márton Fülöp Goalkeeping Camp) on the banks of Lake Balaton.

The young goalkeepers were welcomed up on arrival by Márton’s father Ferenc, who also thanked the sponsors, among them the Hungarian Football Federation (MLSZ), for their help in the camp coming about. Mayor of Balatonfüred István Bóka opened the camp on Monday, with Mihály Takács attending on behalf of Prime Minister Viktor Orbán, and who encouraged those youngsters participating to grab with both hands this wonderful opportunity to develop, declaring that he was sure he would be seeing some of them in the Hungary national youth teams in the near future.

The MLSZ – which is also sponsoring the camp this year – were represented by spokesman Jenő Sipos, who congratulated the young goalkeepers on being called up to participate in the camp, adding that “Márton Fülöp was a role model on and off the pitch, and it is therefore a great responsibility that we honour his memory”.

The twenty-four lucky goalkeepers will have morning training sessions all week, whilst the afternoons will be spent on free-time activities such as excursions and spending time on the beach, and with Teqball also featuring in the programme. Like previous camps the organisers have been working hard behind the scenes, and the very best goalkeeping coaches in the country – Sándor Gujdár, Vilmos Borsos, András Babócsy, László Házi, Dániel Illés, László Kakas, István Kövesfalvi, and András Pálinkás – will oversee the training sessions. Former Hungary goalkeeper Gábor Király will also be dropping in again this year with goalkeeping gloves for the participants, and yet another national team goalkeeper – Ádám Bogdán – has also offered gloves to the young camp residents.
