Hungarian football recognised at Sportspeople of the Year Awards

Hungarian football was emphatically rewarded for its success in 2022 on Monday evening, three of the sport's representatives winning awards presented at the M4 Sport-Sportspeople of the Year Gala organised by the Hungarian Sports Journalists' Association (MSÚSZ) at its new location, Budapest's Opera House.

For many years now Hungarian sports journalists have voted for the best sportspeople, teams and coaches of the year. Last year's football successes were recognised by the nation's media personalities, with representatives of the sport triumphant in three categories.

In the Sports Moment of the Year category, Kristoffer Zachariassen's goal in Ferencváros's Europa League match against Monaco, with which the club secured first place in their group, took top spot while in traditional team sports, the Hungarian national team edged out Ferencváros's men's football team and Sopron's women's basketball team as Team of the Year.

The head coach of the Hungarian men's national team, Marco Rossi, repeated his 2020 success by regaining his Coach of the Year award, this time receiving his trophy from countryman and special guest, Fabio Capello, formerly a winner of the UEFA Champions League with AC Milan, after the former England men's national team coach had accepted the organisers' invitation to attend this showpiece event in Hungary's sporting calendar.
