Hungary and Germany share the points in Nations League

Hungary and Germany shared the spoils in the 3rd round of Nations League fixtures on Saturday evening, an early first-half goal for either side resulting in an eventual 1-1 draw in the Puskás Aréna in Budapest.

Hungary had drawn first blood in the eighth minute, Zsolt Nagy converting a close-range rebound after Roland Sallai had seen a back-post header beaten out by Germany goalkeeper Manuel Neuer, but two minutes later Jonas Neumann knocked the ball into an empty net after surprising two defenders, taking control of a Schotterbeck through-ball and outmanoeuvring the onrushing Hungary goalkeeper Peter Gulácsi.

Hungary head coach Marco Rossi  had made three changes to the lineup which started Tuesday's 2-1 loss away to Italy, Peter Gulácsi coming back in place of Dénes Dibusz while Callum Styles and Attila Fiola replaced the suspended Andras Schafer and the rested Loic Nego respectfully.

A frenetic start to the game yielded two goals but then gave way to an attritional battle. Timo Werner missed a great chance for Germany from Musiala's pass towards the end of the first half and Hungary substitute Mártin Ádám went close with two efforts in the second period in front of noisy and supportive 60,000 crowd.

There was to be no change in the scores though, both teams taking a point which maintains their positions in Group 3 of the Nations League A divisions, Hungary in second spot between leaders Italy and third-placed Germany. England prop up the four-team table after their goalless draw at home to Italy.
