Hungary held in Luxembourg
After the two sides traded goals in the first half of this friendly fixture in Luxembourg, substitute András Németh marked his international debut with a well-taken goal to give Hungary a 2-1 second-half lead over the hosts, but another debutant Alessio Curci pegged back Marco Rossi's team and ensured neither country suffered defeat.
Rossi had opted for an experienced lineup for this first of two friendlies in four days, Dénes Dibusz donning the goalkeeper gloves behind a familiar back three of Attila Szalai, Willy Orbán and Ádám Lang with Zsolt Nagy and Attila Fiola at right- and left wing-back respectively. Ádám Nagy anchored the central midfield with Callum Styles and Dániel Gazdag either side of him while Dominik Szoboszlai supported Martin Ádám upfront.
The visitors got off to the worst possible start though when Styles' short backpass resulted in Dibusz fouling Gerson Rodriguez and giving away a fifth-minute penalty which Rodriguez then duly converted into the top-right corner of the Hungary net to score his 15th goal in 50 international appearances.
Gazdag and Ádám both went close to equalising soon after as the away team settled into the game and Attila Szalai then went one better, restoring parity for Hungary with a strong header into the lower right side of the Luxembourg goal from a Styles right-wing cross.
The scoreline remained 1-1 for the rest of the opening half and the first part of the second period too, despite Szalai sending another header towards goal, Luxembourg's substitute goalkeeper Ralph Schon - on at half-time for the injured Moris - doing extremely well to tip the ball onto the crossbar and away.
The game turned in Hungary's favour in the 58th minute when highly-rated youngster András Németh replaced Ádám upfront and proceeded to score his first international goal just nine minutes later, bisecting two defenders and slotting fellow substitute Milos Kerkez's left-wing cross into the lower left corner of the opponents' goal to edge Hungary in front.
Then came Curci's 78th-minute goal which proved the last major intervention, both teams having to settle for a 2-2 draw. Hungary's next match - the final one of their calendar year - comes on Sunday evening when they host Greece in another friendly in the Puskás Aréna in Budapest.
