International football fortnight in Hungary
The next two weeks will see Hungarian national teams at various levels in action as the season's most important and competitive period appears on the horizon. All four men's and women's youth national teams are in UEFA elite-round action, the men's Under 21 team continues its European Championship qualification campaign, the women's full team contests a World Cup qualifier and the men's team plays two preparation matches ahead of their first Nations League qualication group match in September. Many of these international fxtures will take place at home here in Hungary so here's a rundown of what to look out for.
Hungary's youth teams have repeated the feat of last year when all four of their squads qualified for the elite-round stages of their various UEFA European Championships and this time only the Under 19 men's side will not host their qualification group here in Hungary, Antal Németh's side travelling to Macedonia as they seek to reach the tournament finals later this summer. That means we'll be able to see Hungary men's Under-17 team in Budapest, the women's Under-19 team in Telki and the Under-17 women's team in Bük and Sopron in the west of the country.
Moving up an age group or two, Michael Boris' men's Under-21 side, currently unbeaten in their current U21 Euro qualifying campaign, will look to gain more points in their group when they host Cyprus on 22nd March before travelling to Belgium to challenge their hosts on 26th March.
Meanwhile, at full international level, George Leekens' men's team will play their first matches under his stewardship when they take on Kazakhstan on 23rd March and then Scotland - a team with numerous English Premier League stars - four days later, both fixtures due to be played in Ferencváros's Groupama Aréna. Their female counterparts also have a tough assignment with a home fixture against Sweden in Szombathely.
